Mardi Gras on the Water Perdido Key Style

One of the great events of the season is the Mardi Gras boat parade around the inland waters surrounding Perdido Key.  This year will be no exception.  Take a look at a shot during last year's festivities.

The fleet will depart the Holiday Harbor Marina at 1045 Saturday with spectator viewing at the Sunset Grill. It will travel to the Oyster Bar, U-turn, shower the Perdido Bay Seafood docks with beads, bombard Galvez Landing and head west and take over Perdido Key, storm the docks along Ole River, raid the Flora-Bama dock, pillage the Silver Moon and celebrate the victory party at the Flora-Bama at 1 p.m. Awards will be announced at 2 p.m. Registration: $25 per boat for the decorating contest. Grant Recipient for 2011 with Perdido Roots

Ideawörks announced its 2011 GoodWörks grant recipient, Perdido Bay Tribe.
Selected from a pool of applicants, three finalist organizations were asked to give an informal presentation demonstrating their need for marketing and public relations services in 2011. Perdido Bay Tribe was chosen to receive the 2011 grant for a year of marketing and public relations services.
Perdido Bay Tribe is a local and state recognized tribe of Creek Indians and friends dedicated to the preservation of its Muscogee Creek heritage. Perdido Bay Tribe was founded in 1990 as an outgrowth of the life-long work of its principal chief, Bobby Johns Bearheart, to preserve Creek arts and culture in the Southeast. Perdido Bay Tribe members maintain an active outreach to honor this heritage through art, education and service in a variety of cultural, social and environmental programs.
“Every year a tough decision is made to present one non-profit with the GoodWörks grant,” said Caron Sjöberg, president of Ideawörks. “Perdido Bay Tribe is a local and state recognized tribe of Creek Indians and friends dedicated to the preservation of the Muscogee Creek heritage. We hope our grant will help to bring awareness to the forgotten Native American culture that has been preserved here.”
Ideawörks will assist the Perdido Bay Tribe with their primary challenge of educating people about Native American history, a forgotten part of American culture that has been removed from school history books. Ideawörks will also assist with the publicity of the Native Paths Cultural Heritage and Resource Center that is currently under construction and slated to open its doors in 2011.
